What do you prefer dedicated or colocation?

Dedicated server or colocation servers, both have their individual Pros and Cons. In the initial stages after a web hosting business (for example) is set up, one can choose to have dedicated servers.But as the business expands and in a position to buy their own hardware one can opt for Colocation server. The next stage would be directly getting in touch with the datacenter and placing the hardware there. This would save a lot of expense.
