How To Become A Great Model

Post by marial »

Modelling is not just about turning up and looking good.

It is about being adaptable and able to react well to different circumstances - being flexible.

For instance on some shoots you will need to show one emotion like love, lust, whilst on others you might need to show something like anger, hatred, exasperation and so on.

Therefore you need to be able to get in character for a shoot and be able to let go - for instance to scream at the top of your voice without inhibition which is tricky to do to get that great shot.

So practice at home in the mirror adopting different expressions to communicate different moods. It is not uncommon at castings for instance to be asked to show certain emotions in the photos so they can see if you are up to the job - practice up front and you have a great chance of doing well.

Modelling is not just about turning up and looking good.It is about being adaptable and able to react well to different circumstances - being flexible.
1.Try to meet the industry's standard requirements. Most male models are between 5' 11" and 6' 2" and under 175 pounds. Males can start a modeling career from the age range of 18 to 25 and their careers can last well into their 40s, which is much more relaxed than their female counterparts
2.Keep toned. Although the modeling industry doesn't want a body builder's frame, they do want a fit and healthy appearance.
3.Move to a big city. New York City is the best place for modeling as it is considered the modeling capital of America. Other large cities need models, too, so check around via the Internet and in phone books for modeling opportunities in these areas.
4.Be persistent. Even today's top models have been rejected more than once. If one agency passes on you, think of it as an opportunity to find a better agency.
5.Keep a flexible schedule. Once an agent starts booking shoots, a model must be ready to be on location on short notice. A passport is a must for any model.

Realize that there are qualities every model needs to have, depending on the type of model one wishes to become. Generally, any feature indicative of good health is a must--clear skin, a full head of hair, and overall symmetry. Other qualities such as height and weight depend on what you're modeling. Consider working with a fitness trainer, especially someone who has a good reputation and experience with models. Tell them your modeling goals and how you'll need your body to look.

Decide what kind of model you'd like to be. Technically, anybody can be a model. However, do remember that if you don't meet certain requirements, the work available to you will be incredibly limited, and you may have to compensate in other departments (reliability, technique, etc).
Get some photos done. These don't have to be professional but they should be created for the purpose of showing your ability as a model. Although agencies say they are happy with snapshots, that doesn't mean they want to see an out of focus shot of you out partying with your friends with a little note attached saying that you're the one on the right! As a bare minimum, you will need one head shot and one body shot.
Make an appointment.
Be prepared. When you attend your appointment, they might ask you to pull certain faces like laughing, happy, sad, or seductive. Practice in front of a mirror beforehand. It may help to look at pictures of models in magazines to get an idea. Be ready to have a Polaroid close up of your face taken.
