What Are Slow Recovery Foams?

Slow Recovery foams such as visco elastic foams or “memory foam” are unique amongst foams for their ability to maintain their shape following depression. This makes them suited to a variety of specific applications, where moulding to an object (or person’s!) shape is desirable. Memory foams have excellent properties which means they can be used in a huge variety of applications, from commercial to more complex requirments.
Slow recovery foam has a distinguished history, and it was NASA that invented visco elastic slow recovery foam – which became better known as memory foam as time moved on – back in the 60s, to meet the stringent demands of outer space. However, it is perhaps only today in more modest situations that memory foam has really begun to shine thanks to its unique make up and range of uses.
We have probably all heard of memory foam mattresses, however the applications of slow recovery foam reach far beyond comfortable bedding – as slow recovery foams are not only great for moulding to an objects shape, but they have inherent qualities, such as shock absorption, which makes than perfectly suited for lots of other things, too.
For example, memory foam is great for applications that require an extra layer of safety, such as industrial or sports protection, and more specifically as an inner layer in helmets.
