We have compiled a great deal of packing tips after years of travelling and together with some members suggestions, we thought we should share them with other travellers setting out.
1. Security and Keeping Details Safe
Scan your passport, passport photos and paper tickets (if not the e type) in. Store this (in an email for e.g.) in your web based email account.
You can also store the details of your emergency 'lost card' telephone numbers in your web based email account so you know who to contact if your credit card or ATM card is lost or stolen.
2. Split up your valuables
Split up your bank cards, cash, travellers' cheques and credit cards as much as possible in different pockets, your bags and wallet when packing. In case you do get robbed, at least you won't be strapped for cash (unless you have all your bags AND your wallet stolen of course!).
3. Nalgene/Small Bottles
Use nalgene/small bottles to pack toiletries and other small items. There are several sturdy and (very nearly) waterproof ones, with clear/see through ones being preferable You can also use small bottles to repack shampoo or lotions so that you don't have to always carry a big bottle with you. This is especially useful if you normally take these items in your carry-on luggage, which as of early 2007 is much more restricted than before.
4 .Flashlights or Torches
When packing a flashlight or torch (or any other item with batteries for that matter), turn the batteries around so that if the item is accidentally turned on, you won't empty the batteries. Don't forget to turn the batteries back around when using the flashlight.
5. Diaper Bag
If you are travelling with babies, then the diaper bag is an excellent place to hide your valuables. This most likely will not be the first thing to be stolen. It's also a great to use as a waste bag (even when not travelling with a child!), especially at places that do not allow you to flush toilet paper.
6. Shoes
If you want to make sure everything else in your bags stays clean and odor free, place the shoes inside old socks and then inside airtight plastic bags (ziplock).

1.Ideally, carry backpacks because they are easy to carry and have enough space.

2. Make sure your suitcases and bags are properly labeled and have wheels underneath. Remember the idea is the journey to be comfortable.

3. Always have your essential documents - passports, travelers' cheques and money handy.

4. If you are in India from abroad you should understand the importance of mosquito repellents. The hot and humid weather Indian weather is ideal for mosquitos to breed. Hence carry mosquito repellents while traveling to India. Odomos is a well known brand available at any convenient store in India.

5. Once in India you will have to take extra care of your health. That would mean to carry mineral water along with you. It will take time to adapt to the climate and food here, the hygiene standards also differ from place to place.

6. Roadside vendors selling rubber bands to jewellery are found in plenty in India. Be careful about the products that they sell. Bargain smartly with all and try and get the best possible rates. Do not stick on to one shop, look around and compare prices. Be careful when dealing with guides. Sometimes even they try and cheat. So beware and do proper research before hiring people.

Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, there are certain essentials you should pack for the trip. You don't want to be caught off guard leaving something important at home where you have no access to it.

The first thing that you need is your itinerary. Although it is difficult to plan every minute of each day, if you can plan as much as possible in advance then you may be able to squeeze in all activities you really want to do. Write down every attraction on which you have you sights set plus all the sightseeing you have in mind. Doing so will help you to organize required arrangements you need upon arrival.

Before you depart for the trip, make a list of the personal belongings you intend to take. This includes your passport, traveler's checks, credit cards, confirmation numbers, and phone numbers you may find helpful at your destination. Along with this list, plan the particulars for a bag of toiletries, including your toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hair accessories, and anything else you use to get ready for the day.

Of course you need to pack your clothes and shoes. Be sure to check your planned location's weather before you leave so you are aptly prepared with raincoats, winter coats, sweaters or shorts - depending on the weather. Unless it is part of the fun you plan, you'll want to avoid wasting time and money there on new clothes to accommodate the weather or local attire. If you intend to do much walking, bring a comfortable pair of sneakers or walking shoes. Never simply rely on dress shoes while you are traveling.

Medication is equally important; if you have any prescriptions you take daily, put them in a bag that is easily accessible. Pack larger doses of medication in a travel case so that you can count out your pills for each day. Along with the medication, take any aspirin or antacids you may need to avoid headaches or heartburn that tend to accompany vacation activities. One other essential when traveling is a map. If you are unfamiliar with the area, a map can help you find your way back to the hotel. Being lost in a strange place can be pretty scary if you are not prepared.

Finally, you will not regret bringing a separate bag along to tote extra items home; as a bonus you can use it for day trips or times when you need smaller items with you.
