Acne is a skin condition that is commonly characterized by bumps, pimples, or zits. But these are just the common terms. One type acne bumps is called comedones, which may be opened or closed. Opened comedones are actually blackheads, and closed comedones are whiteheads. Another type of bump that can be seen in acne is papulopustules. These are elevations in the skin which are hard, and contain whitish yellowish pus. In more severe acne, there may be cysts, which are filled with a liquid substance.
